AARP Grief and Loss Programs

AARP Grief and Loss Programs offers a wide range of resources and information on grief and loss issues for bereaved adults of all ages. Programming includes: one-to-one outreach such as the AARP Widowed Persons Service for newly widowed men and women, a facilitated bereavement series for groups, informational booklets and brochures, an extensive web site on coping with grief and loss, interactive online support groups and discussion boards, telephone referral services, and public education programs. The program actively works cooperatively with local organizations to develop community-based bereavement services.

A Heartbreaking Choice

With the increased use of prenatal testing, more and more families are faced with the devastating news that something is seriously or fatally wrong with their unborn baby. For those parents who choose to interrupt their pregnancies after poor prenatal diagnosis, there is very little in the way of support programs. With this site and the dedication of courageous parents willing to reach out, we hope to create a safe haven of encouragement and validation.

ADC Project

The ADC Project was created in May, 1988 to conduct the first in-depth research of After-Death Communications. The founders, Bill Guggenheim and Judy Guggenheim, interviewed 2,000 people who live in all 50 American states and the 10 Canadian provinces. They collected more than 3,300 firsthand accounts from people who believe they have been contacted by a loved one who had died.

Alive Alone

Alive Alone is an organization for the education and charitable purposes to benefit bereaved parents, whose only child or all children are deceased, by providing a self-help network and publications to promote communication and healing, to assist in resolving their grief, and a means to reinvest their lives for a positive future.

Before I Die

Compassionate Friends

The largest self-help organization in the world for bereaved parents, siblings, and grandparents. They provide more than 650 local chapters in the U.S. and Canada, with national and regional conferences. TCF offers national and local newsletters, books and tapes, and other related bereavement resources.

Crisis Grief & Healing

Tom Golden's page for men and women to browse to understand and honor the many different paths to heal strong emotions. Tom Golden LCSW of Washington D.C. is an internationally known psychotherapist, author, and speaker on the topic of healing from loss.

Death and Dying

The Mining Co. - Author & Guide: Trudy Weathersby, RN, M.Ed

The objective of this site is to provide a means of support and information for anyone who is impacted by the end of life. The information is presented in an objective manner about all aspects of death including the traditional views on grieving and more contemporary ideas such as NDE's (Near Death Experiences) and euthanasia (assisted suicide). Included are links to other sites that have extensive information for the professional and lay person. Take time to browse the chat sessions and bulletin boards where individuals discuss controversial subjects or talk about their experiences with the dying.

For Those Who Have Had Miscarriages

A primary guide written by C. Elizabeth Carney for parents who have recently experienced the death of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or other prenatal loss.

Gili's Place

The website of Henya Kagan (Klein), Ph.D, a licensed and certified psychologist in Texas who has been working as a psychologist since 1974, both in Israel and in the United States. Her specialty is bereavement and adjustment to loss. Her life’s mission is to counseling bereaved and the non-bereaved alike about the normalcy of grief, and to help the bereaved turn ‘surviving’ into ‘living.’ In the present, she devotes most of my time to bereaved people in her private practice in Houston, and to continuing research, consultation, training, and writing on bereavement.

The GriefShare site has video seminars and support groups that meet throughout the US, Canada, and in over 10 other countries.

Grief Recovery Group

Their mission is to hold out a helping hand and befriend people throughout their time of sorrow. They try to accelerate the healing process through educational programs and support groups.

Grief Recovery Institute

The Institute, an internationally recognized authority, provides programs for The Compassionate Friends, The National SIDS Foundation, The National AIDS Network, The University of California at Irvine, Chapman University, and many others. This site offers a wealth of information for the those suffering loss.

An independent haven for the bereaved developed by the bereaved - OUR PLACE. Here, on GROWW, you will find your partners in pain sharing their experience and strength. They have message boards, resource listings and secure chat rooms hosted by the most loving people on the internet for all who are grieving.

H.A.N.D

The goal of this site is to share H.A.N.D.'s mission to support grieving parents in the greater Houston area with the rest of the world via the internet.

Hospice Foundation of America

On this page you can learn about hospice care, how to select a hospice and how to locate a hospice near you. You can learn of their programs, read excerpts from their publications, order their books and videos and sign up for their annual bereavement teleconference. You can even make a donation if you like. They invite you to see their hospice stories page, and send in your own story. They will also point you to other interesting related organizations, and connect you to a support group in your area.

Sena Foundation

Sena Foundation has been a leader in the field of Grief and Loss for over a decade. A direct outgrowth of the hospice/death dying movement, Sena Foundation offers free support for those going through catastrophic loss. In addition to working with those who grieve the death of a loved one, Sena also offers support to those suffering loss issues resulting from, aging, divorce, rape, substance abuse, and other social problems not commonly associated with grief and loss.

The Shiva Foundation

SIDS Network

This site is the growing collaborative effort of individuals from across the United States and around the world. This sites offers up-to-date information as well as support for those who have been touched by the tragedy of SIDS/OID.

TAPS

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Inc. (TAPS ) is a national non-profit organization made up of, and providing services to, all those who have lost a loved one on active duty with the Armed Forces.

The Dougy Center

The mission of The Dougy Center is to provide to families in Portland, Oregon and the surrounding region loving support in a safe place where children, teens, and their families who are grieving a death can share their experience as they move through their healing process. Through their National Center for Grieving Children and Families, they also provide support and training locally, nationally and internationally to individuals and organizations seeking to assist children and teens in grief.

The Hope Foundation

The Hope Foundation of Alberta is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to understanding and enhancing hope in individuals, families, and institutions. The Foundation is a joint community/university venture where people from all walks of life cooperate in practical and scholarly activities.

Hospice is a non-profit, community-based organization of volunteers, lay persons and professionals who provide a specialized health care program for the terminally ill. The aim of Hospice is to provide a supporting environment where the terminally ill can live their lives fully and meaningfully, and be able to die in a hospice-support facility of at home with the companionship of family and friends. While many people are aware of its focus on the needs of the dying, Hospice also offers support to the family before, during and following the death of the terminally ill person.

This is a group of volunteers who are interested in the welfare of both individuals considering suicide themselves or persons who have lost a friend or relative to suicide. The Samaritans also operate a 24-hour telephone service. Specially trained volunteers listen to the caller's concerns and attempt to be as helpful and supportive as possible.

"AfterLife"! Grief Recovery Seminar

This Center has developed a complete AfterCare Program for Hospice, Church, and Training of Caretakers of those who suffer from long-term illness. They are available for speaking engagements as well as materials and newsletter. They offer spiritually based counseling and renewal priciples for those who have expeirenced loss. Their format ranges from Week-End Seminars and conferences to a Seven week Conference which is hosted by Funeral Homes and Cemataries. The format is one night a week for two hours a night for seven weeks held on a quartlerly basis.
